Washington County Election Results

The following are unofficial and incomplete election results for the Tuesday, November 5 Davisboro General Municipal Election and the Special Election for Washington County Sheriff and the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

* Washington County Sheriff *
Joel Cochran Elected Sheriff of Washington County
Joel Cochran: 3,059 votes, or 52.6 percent
Kelly Brooks, Jr.: 2,612 votes, or 44.9 percent
Michael Johnson: 144 votes, or 2.5 percent

* Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax *
SPLOST Vote Passes
Yes: 3,626 votes, or 65.3 percent
No: 1,926 votes, or 34.7 percent
The SPLOST will continue for six years; collections for this SPLOST will begin in October of 2020. The estimated amount to be raised during this SPLOST is $14,040,000. With this SPLOST, the Level I projects include funding to retire the debt service for the construction of the jail and funds to purchase emergency management radios. The total funds for Level I projects amounts to $8.2 million. The Level II projects include the distribution of the remaining funds to Cities within Washington County.

Sandra Braswell Elected Mayor of Davisboro
Sandra Braswell: 98 votes, or 59.4 percent
Valerie Gail Brown: 67 votes, or 40.6 percent

* Davisboro City Council’s Four At-Large Seats *
The four candidates that received the most votes will serve on the Davisboro City Council. They include: Keith Braswell, Nikki Carswell, Larry Ivey, and Beryl McNeely.
Mary Archer Holsey: 91 votes, or 16.7 percent
Beryl McNeely: 105 votes, or 19.3 percent
Keith Braswell (incumbent): 124 votes, or 22.8 percent
Nikki Carswell (incumbent): 115 votes, or 21.1 percent
Larry E. Ivey (incumbent): 109 votes, or 20 percent
