GBI Investigating Tuesday Evening Shooting in Johnson County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that took place in Johnson County on Tuesday, May 19.

According to a news release issued by the GBI, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 185 Tucker Grove Church Road in Wrightsville at approximately 6:06 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 in reference to a female being shot.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office subsequently requested the assistance of the GBI Eastman office.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Johnquavious Norris, age 19, shot his girlfriend Jayla Washington, age 18, of East Dublin, with a handgun in the bedroom of the residence. Norris resides at the residence where the shooting occurred.

Washington was airlifted to Navicent Health in Macon and is listed in stable condition. Norris has alleged the shooting to be accidental.

Norris and Jamar L. Waters, age 20, have both been charged with tampering with evidence and are being housed at the Johnson County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
