People gathered on the Washington County Courthouse square on Wednesday evening to take part in a peaceful protest in the wake of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
The evening began with a prayer for unity and justice for all.
“We hope the public will see that we are all people; we all want the opportunity to live the American dream without being racially profiled or judged before we can speak,” said organizers of the peaceful protest, Taylor Rivers and Jennifer Collins.
People took to the sidewalks of Washington County, carrying signs for justice and urging the public to never forget the lives of George Floyd and Eurie Lee Martin. They were joined by local law enforcement officials who marched for unity, as well.
From the Washington County Courthouse square, the march went south on Highway 15 to Kaolin Plaza, gathering more people along the route. At the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 242, the march turned north to the former Sandersville Elementary School.
The peaceful protest concluded at the Washington County Courthouse Square.
