The following are the official and complete results for the Tuesday, June 9 elections in Washington County.

There were three contested local races on the democratic ballot. In the race for Washington County Sheriff, incumbent candidate Joel Cochran defeated W. Kelly Brooks, Jr. Cochran received 3,359 votes, or 59.54 percent; Brooks received 2,405 votes, or 40.46 percent.

For Coroner of Washington County, incumbent candidate E.K. May defeated L.M. ‘Teddy’ Pierce, Jr. and Henry Tanner. May received 2,971 votes, or 50.49 percent; Pierce received 2,173 votes, or 36.93 percent; Tanner received 740 votes, or 12.58 percent.

In the race Chief Magistrate race, Manzie T. Broxton, Sr. defeated incumbent candidate Neil Pittman. Broxton received 2,952 votes, or 50.47 percent, while Pittman received 2,897 votes, or 49.53 percent. 55 votes separated the two candidates.

Two Special Purpose Local Option Sales Taxes were considered by voters; both passed in Washington County. For the regional Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, 3,368 voted in favor of the penny sales tax, while 2,272 voted against it.

The Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax was approved by voters. In total, 3,815 voted in favor of this sales tax, while 2,385 voted against it.

In regard to Sunday Sales of beer and wine in Washington County, 4,070 voted in favor, and 2,342 voted against it.

Other regional race results include the following:

For District Attorney of the Middle Judicial Circuit, two candidates qualified as Republicans – Tony May and Tripp Fitzner. May carried Washington County with 487 votes, or 80.5 percent; Fitzner received 118 votes, or 19.5 percent. However, Fitzner received the most votes in the District, and ultimately defeated May.

Two candidates were on the democratic ballot for State Representative for District 128 – Incumbent candidate Mack Jackson and Daniel ‘Danny’ Thomas, Jr. Jackson carried Washington County with 4,372 votes, or 80.89 percent. Thomas received 1,033 votes, or 19.11 percent. Jackson received the majority of the votes throughout the district, and defeated Thomas.

Tabitha Johnson-Green defeated Andrew Ferguson as the democratic nominee for the 10th Congressional District.  She received 2,939 votes in Washington County to Ferguson’s 1,329 votes. She will face Incumbent Republican candidate Jody Hice.

For Superior Court Judge of the Middle Circuit, Tommy J. Smith received 4,000 votes in Washington County;  Tobe C. Karrh received 1,086 votes.
