On Monday, July 6, Sandersville Police Chief Victor Cuyler released a public service announcement regarding noise control on Sandersville roadways.
Chief Cuyler took to social media to urge individuals with loud exhaust on their vehicles to keep noise to a minimum.
“There is no reason to make the windows of the businesses on the courthouse square shake when riding by them,” said the Facebook post. “We get complaints of this happening all the time, and verbal warnings are not doing any good. People are awakened in the middle of the night. People watching television or talking on the phone cannot hear. Pets go crazy. Some people have PTSD to loud sounds.”
Chief Cuyler of the Sandersville PD detailed the city ordinance concerning noise control, stating that any person found guilty of violating the code section would be punished by a fine not to exceed $500 or 30 days in the county jail.
According to Chief Cuyler, the Sandersville City Code of Ordinances Section 11-4-1 reads as followed:
“It is unlawful for any person, while on or adjacent to the premises of a business, or upon a public street or parking area used by the public, to race the motor of any car, to suddenly start or stop any car, or to make or cause to be made any other loud or unseemly noise. It is also unlawful for any other person parked on the premises of such business, public street or parking area used by the public to blow or cause to be blown any automobile horn or to play any radio, car stereo or any other device for making music in any manner so as to disturb the public peace at any time while so parked.”
“Be considerate and realize it is completely avoidable. This is a nuisance and will no longer be tolerated. If you are causing these ridiculous and obnoxious sounds with your vehicle then expect a citation. Cars, trucks, ATV’s, etc. – it doesn’t matter,” said the Sandersville Police Department Facebook post.
