The Washington County Board of Commissioners has announced the closure of all County offices to the public effective Thursday, July 16.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained that the decision made by Commissioners was based on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Washington County.

Since July 1, Washington County has seen 100 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.

County offices will continue to operate and will be available to respond to emails and telephone calls to discuss any issues that the public may have. Please refer to the County website washingtoncountyga.gov and click on the departments tab for the contact information of the office you need to contact.

County Administrator Peebles stated that the public can also call to schedule appointments; social distancing must be practiced, and face masks are strongly recommended.

The County will continue to monitor the situation as new information is gathered. No date has been set as to when the County offices will re-open to the public.

Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran also announced that the front lobby of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be closed to the public.

“I regret this, but the continuing health of our staff and inmates is one of my responsibilities,” said Sheriff Cochran. He added, “We need to restrict who comes into our facility for everyone’s well-being.”
