On Thursday, July 23, it was announced that contractors for the Sandersville Railroad will begin the first of three upcoming projects in the local area late next week.
The initial railroad crossing work will be the construction of a new track on Georgia Highway 24/ East McCarty Street. This effort is set to begin on Friday, July 31 and is scheduled through Friday, August 7.
The second project is the removal of the non-operable track on the Fall Line Freeway/Georgia Highway 88. An official start date has not been set for this upcoming development.
The final railroad crossing work is the addition of a new track located east of the Ridge Road intersection on the Fall Line Freeway. Work dates will be publicized upon the completion of the previous projects.
It was announced on Thursday that an official off-site detour for state highway truck traffic will be installed for each of the work items. Local traffic will be able to bypass railroad crossing work courtesy of off-system highways.
As previously reported by WACO 100, the City of Sandersville recently announced that East McCarty Street from Hospital Road to Ridge Road will be closed to through traffic from Monday, July 20 to Monday, August 31. Traffic is being detoured to Jordan Mill Road and the Fall Line Freeway. This interruption is for scheduled sewer work.
