Washington County Public Schools announced on Monday, July 27 that parents or guardians wanting to transition their child/children to the Option C “Blended Remote” learning option have until Wednesday, July 29 at 3:30 p.m. to contact the school(s) where their child/children will attend for the 2020-2021 school year.
“At this time, there has been a degree of shift in the community cases,” reads a letter from Washington County School Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond. He added, “It is important that we remain transparent, open, and flexible.”
With the letter, Superintendent Dr. Edmond extended the opportunity for parents/guardians who had originally selected Option A “Traditional” or Option B “Hybrid” to shift to Option C “Blended Remote.”
“If you have chosen Option A or Option B and wish to switch to Option C, this must be done by Wednesday, July 29 at 3:30 p.m.,” wrote Superintendent Dr. Edmond. “At this time, we will allow you to make this change and re-evaluate your decision after nine weeks.”
As previously reported by WACO 100, with the traditional model, students will attend school Monday – Friday and participate in the traditional classroom model. Classes are set to begin on Friday, August 7.
The hybrid option sees students attending school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students will participate in distance learning on the days they are not on site. Classes for the hybrid option are scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 11.
The third option is the blended remote where students complete schoolwork using the virtual/distance learning method 100 percent of the time. Parents choose between learning packets or online instruction via a web-based platform such as Zoom or Google Classroom. Orientation for the blended remote is scheduled for Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14. Curriculum for the blended remote learning option will begin on Monday, August 17. Parent orientations for the blended remote option will take place on Thursday, July 30 at 3:30 P.M. and at 5:30 P.M. Parents/guardians that select this option will be contacted by the School System with Zoom information concerning the orientation.
