Two Tennille City Council seats are up for grabs.
Qualifying to fill those seats will take place Wednesday, July 29 beginning at 9 a.m., and concluding at noon on Friday, July 31 at Tennille City Hall located at 106 Park Street in Tennille.
The two vacant City Council seats represent District 2, Post 1, and District 3, Post 1.
As previously reported by WACO 100, Marlene Garrard Veal has represented District 2, Post 1. Veal announced during the Monday, June 15 Tennille City Council meeting that she planned to resign from her Tennille City Council seat, effective July 1.
Veal explained that her husband passed away unexpectedly on April 12 of this year; her resignation from Council would allow her to spend more time with her family.
Veal had served on Tennille City Council since 2014.
Earlier this year, Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings announced that Councilperson Elaine Walk had submitted a letter of resignation to the City of Tennille.
Councilperson Walk’s letter stated that because she moved out of the city limits of Tennille, she was no longer eligible to serve the citizens of Tennille.
Walk had served on Tennille City Council since 2014.
The Special Election for the City of Tennille concerning those two City Council seats is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3. If a run-off is required, it will take place on Tue. Dec. 1. All persons who are not registered to vote, but desire to register to vote in the Special Election, may register to vote through the close of business on Monday, October 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day.
