Two individuals were arrested over the weekend after discarding nearly 50 used tires in the area of Sunhill Road.

According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, County Commissioner Doug Watkins observed the individuals discarding the used tires on Sunhill Road near Sunhill Grange Road; he notified authorities and provided a description of the individuals, as well as their direction of travel.

With Watkins’ information, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area, and ultimately arrested two individuals. They are identified as Michael Baucom of Sandersville, and Joseph Phillips of Sandersville. Both were charged with unlawful dumping.

“Approximately 50 tires were discovered to have been dumped,” said Washington County Sheriff Cochran. He added, “Illegal dumping and littering has been an ongoing and rather costly topic for many years.”

Sheriff Cochran reminded the public if you see something, say something. Contact 911 with information concerning what took place.

“Please, help keep Washington County beautiful and clean,” said Sheriff Cochran.

If you see someone littering or illegally dumping, get a tag number of the vehicle, a good description of the vehicle and the occupants, as well as the vehicle’s direction of travel.
