The Washington County Ag Center Rodeo Planning Committee announced Friday, August 14 that the 2020 rodeo scheduled for September 4 and September 5 has been canceled due to COVID-19.

The Washington County Ag Center Rodeo was originally scheduled to take place in April of this year, but the decision was made to postpone the event until late May.

When Governor Brian Kemp extended the public health state of emergency and renewed the executive order that banned large gatherings, the rodeo opted to postpone the event, once again.  The date was scheduled for September 4 and 5.

Most recently, the Planning Committee met and decided to cancel this year’s event, explaining that they had the option to postpone until later this year, or to cancel this year’s event and focus on 2021.

Eddy Turner, who serves on the Planning Committee, explained that when considering their next steps, the Committee knew if the rodeo took place later this year, many of the riders would be finished with the season, which would limit the participation. They also had to consider the timing and consider the already scheduled spring-time event set for April of 2021.

Any tickets that were purchased in advance for the 2020 rodeo can be used for the 2021 rodeo, or refunds are available.

The sponsorship commitments for the 2020 rodeo will be applied for the 2021 rodeo.

The 2021 Washington County Ag Center Rodeo is scheduled for April 2 and 3.
