A teacher at Washington County High School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a Monday, August 17 news release from Washington County School Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond.
“Our mitigation process was activated swiftly and effectively,” explained Dr. Edmond.
According to Dr. Edmond, the teacher is isolated at home per the Department of Public Health guidelines.
Dr. Edmond explained that the Washington County School’s team of contact tracers consulted with the Department of Public Health during the entire process. All relevant parties that have had potential exposure have been personally notified and are being monitored and/or quarantined. He added that the school system will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Department of Public Health.
Washington County High School’s Golden Hawk football practice is “on hold” after a confirmed COVID-19 case was reported for one Varsity football player, according to a Friday, August 14 news release from Washington County School Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond.
In an effort to ensure the safety and health of both students and staff, the school system defogged classrooms, added additional sanitary measures, made communication with relevant parties, and continued to remind students and staff the importance of social distancing and wearing a mask when within six feet of others.
This is the third confirmed COVID-19 case reported by Washington County Public Schools since the 2020-2021 school year started on Friday, August 7.
As previously reported by WACO 100, on Wednesday, August 12, Washington County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond announced the initial case of COVID-19 in the school system since the start of the 2020-2021 school year on Friday, August 7. He stated that the COVID-19 positive student attends the Washington County High School.
One week later, on Friday, August 14, Superintendent Edmond announced that Washington County High School Varsity football practice was “on hold at this time” after a football player tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Dr. Rickey Edmond encouraged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s health, and to reinforce the expected health habits. He also stated the importance of students with symptoms remaining at home.
“If your child has been in contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19 or they have a fever, respiratory symptoms, fatigue, headaches, stomach issues, or other COVID-19 related symptoms then do not send them to school, said Dr. Edmond.
In the instance of a student being exposed to COVID-19 or exhibiting symptoms at home, he urged parents and guardians to contact their child’s school so the school can form a plan of action for continued learning.
