Santa Claus is coming to Sandersville during this year’s Christmas on the Square event scheduled for Thursday, December 3.

While downtown merchants are open throughout the day, the evening’s festivities kick-off around 5 p.m. continuing until 8 p.m., encouraging people to “Shop Local” and to enjoy a longstanding tradition in Washington County.

While enjoying the City of Sandersville’s Christmas decorations around downtown, a horse and carriage will take patrons around town for an evening ride. The horse and carriage rides are sponsored each year by the Sandersville Downtown Development Authority. Carriage rides require a ticket – those tickets are free of charge and available at the ticket booth on the night of the event.

Prior to Santa Claus’ arrival, the annual lighting of the Pilot Club Lite-a-Lite tree will take place in downtown Sandersville.

The seventh annual Children’s parade is also scheduled for Thursday evening. Children, dressed in Christmas attire, with decorated bicycles and wagons will lead Santa to downtown Sandersville.

Santa Claus will be located in the Gazebo to discuss Christmas wish lists; this is also a ticketed portion of the night’s festivities. Tickets are free of charge and available at the ticket booth on the night of the event.

Those attending the Thursday evening festivities will also enjoy live entertainment including Lindsay Huggins, Christmas stories, a Christmas market, and an appearance from Mrs. Claus.

The Sandersville Christmas on the Square event is sponsored by the Pilot Club of Washington County in collaboration with the Sandersville Downtown Development Authority.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing are encouraged throughout this event.
