Washington County E-911 Center ‘Running Smooth’ Following Change in Management

Washington County’s E-911 Center has undergone a few changes since September of this year.

During the November Washington County Board of Commissioners’ meeting it was explained that Commissioners had received complaints about the E-911 Center, and hired a consultant to evaluate the E-911 Center.

With the consultant’s recommendations, the Washington County Commissioners asked that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office manage the E-911 Center.

“Since then, it’s been a work in progress, and we thank the Commissioners for helping us be a part of the solution,” said Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran.

Washington County Commissioner Edward Burten explained during the meeting that he had visited the E-911 Center since the transition.

“Things are running smooth,” said Commissioner Burten when providing feedback.

Spearheading the transition is Captain Corey King of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office; he reported to the Commissioners that since the transition, they’ve focused on upgrading technology, bringing additional resources to the Center in order to better assist first responders and the community, and coaching dispatchers on customer service.

“He’s done an exceptional job going in – starting from zero, building up, working on putting a plan together,” said Sheriff Cochran. He added, “We’ve been identifying problems, and we’re working on finding solutions.”

Sheriff Cochran and Captain King also commended the E-911 Dispatchers for their willingness to adapt to the changes.

Chairman Horace Daniel thanked Sheriff Cochran and the staff at E-911 for working together to improve the Washington County E-911 Center.

“We’re all working together,” said Chairman Daniel.
