Washington County Commissioners will consider bids for road repairs in the county at their Thursday, December 10 meeting.
Washington County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained during the Tuesday, December 8 workshop that the bids are for repairs to eight roads damaged by Hurricane Sally in September of this year. As previously reported by WACO 100, Washington County received between 10 and 12 inches of rainfall on September 17, causing significant flooding resulting in road damage.
The roads include: East Lake Drive, Henderson Grove Road, New Road, Thompson Road, News Bridge Road, Mayview Road, Riddleville Mt. Moriah Road, and McCoy Pond Road.
County Administrator Peebles suggested splitting the work between the two contractors in order to have the work completed faster.
Commissioner James Hitchcock stated that he would not be at the meeting on Thursday, but agreed the work should be split to speed the repair process.
In addition to road repairs, Commissioners will also consider bids for Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) lights for the airport at their Thursday, December 10 meeting. County Administrator Peebles reported at the workshop that the airport received $20,000 in CARES Act funding to help offset the cost for the lights.
County Administrator Peebles presented two options for PAPI lights at the workshop: older style lights which cost $29,600, or LED lights for $40,920. It was noted that the LED lights will last longer and are more energy efficient. The balance for the lights will come from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds that were set aside for the airport.
Washington County Commissioners will also hear the fourth quarter Chamber of Commerce update from Washington County Chamber of Commerce President Katie Moncus.
