Holiday decorations are ‘lighting up’ the City of Tennille; it’s all part of the City’s Yard of the Quarter contest.

Following the fall yard of the quarter competition, Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings announced the winter theme.

“We want to light up Tennille,” said Mayor Cummings, explaining that the winter competition will focus on holiday decorations.

The City’s Yard of the Quarter program is designed to recognize the hard work and pride exhibited by Tennille residents who beautify their yards.

According to Tennille Mayor Cummings, the beautification program was established earlier this year to recognize Tennille City residents who have improved or maintained their yard and whose yard has a positive aesthetic appeal.

“This award is intended to inspire others to take pride in their yard, and to improve the overall quality of life in Tennille,” said Mayor Cummings.

Judging for the winter yard of the quarter contest will take place during the week of December 21. Mayor Cummings stated that this gives citizens more time to decorate. The winner will be announced during a Tennille City Council meeting.

Judges will use the following criteria when selecting the exemplary yard:

– Yard is well-groomed and maintained

– Tasteful landscaping with attractive yard that is pleasing to the eye

– Buildings, fences, porches, and patios on the property are in good repair

– Yard is free of litter, junk and debris, including no appliances or indoor furniture on the porches or patios

– Yard is free of junk or inoperable vehicles, and there are no vehicles parked on the grass areas

– House numbers are displayed attractively

– Only the portion of the yard viewed from the street will be judged

– Good use of seasonal color

– Creativity and originality

– Overall appearance is pleasing

The Yard of the Quarter winners from each district will be featured in the City of Tennille’s newsletter and through local media.
