Within the last two weeks, Washington County has seen 122 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
As of the Wednesday, January 6 daily COVID-19 status report from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Washington County has seen a total of 1,240 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 239 antigen positive cases since the pandemic began. The number of COVID-19 related deaths totaled 27 for the county; the DPH also reported 19 probable COVID-19 deaths for Washington County.
The recent spike in local cases has prompted multiple cancellations and modifications to area meetings and events.
The Development Authority of Washington County opted to postpone their first quarterly meeting of the new year by one month. Executive Director Jayson Johnston reported that the Authority plans to conduct their meeting on Wednesday, February 17, at 8 a.m., rather than in January.
The Washington County Board of Commissioners’ announced earlier this week that their workshop and meeting scheduled for January 12 and 14 are canceled due to COVID-19 cases rising in the county.
Sandersville United Methodist Church announced they are suspending in-person worship for the next two weeks. There will be no in-person services on Sunday, January 10 and Sunday, January 17. Worship services will be live-streamed on the church’s YouTube channel.
Washington EMC made the decision to replace the Washington Youth Tour with a scholarship due to the uncertainty of COVID-19.
