Washington County’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.6 Percent

The Georgia Department of Labor recently reported Washington County’s unemployment rate for the month of February 2021.

The latest statistics from the Department of Labor show Washington County with a 5.6 percent unemployment rate, a decrease from the previous month. Washington County’s unemployment rate for the month of January 2021 was 6.0 percent. For February of 2020, Washington County’s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent.

According to data presented by the Georgia Department of Labor’s Workforce Statistics and Economic Research shows the labor force for Washington County during February of this year was 6,996 with 6,604 employed and 392 unemployed. The previous month’s work force was 6,950 with 6,532 employed and 418 unemployed. These numbers are not seasonally adjusted.

Unemployment rates for February 2021 as reported by the Georgia Department of Labor for surrounding counties are as follows:

– Baldwin: 5.4 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 6.2 percent
– Glascock: 2.8 percent, a slight increase from the previous month’s 2.7 percent
– Hancock: 7.0 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 8.1 percent
– Jefferson: 5.5 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 6.0 percent
– Johnson: 4.0 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 4.3 percent
– Laurens: 4.6 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 5.3 percent
– Wilkinson: 4.4 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 5.2 percent

The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) was 4.5 percent in February of 2021. This is a decrease from the previous month’s 5.1 percent. The unemployment rate for the Central Savannah River Region was 3.9 percent in February of 2020.

The Central Savannah River Region includes the following counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Jenkins, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, Washington, and Wilkes.

Georgia’s “not seasonally-adjusted” unemployment rate for February 2021 was 4.4 percent, also a decrease from the previous month’s 5.0 percent unemployment rate. In February of 2020, the state unemployment rate was 3.4 percent.
