Washington County’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.1 Percent

The Georgia Department of Labor recently reported Washington County’s unemployment rate for the month of March 2021.

The latest statistics from the Department of Labor show Washington County with a 5.1 percent unemployment rate, a decrease from the previous month. Washington County’s unemployment rate for the month of February 2021 was 5.7 percent. For March of 2020, Washington County’s unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

According to data presented by the Georgia Department of Labor’s Workforce Statistics and Economic Research shows the labor force for Washington County during March of this year was 7,053 with 6,696 employed and 357 unemployed. The previous month’s work force was 7,003 with 6,607 employed and 396 unemployed. These numbers are not seasonally adjusted.

Unemployment rates for March 2021 as reported by the Georgia Department of Labor for surrounding counties are as follows:

– Baldwin: 4.8 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 5.4 percent
– Glascock: 2.4 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 2.8 percent
– Hancock: 6.4 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 6.9 percent
– Jefferson: 4.9 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 5.5 percent
– Johnson: 3.5 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 4.1 percent
– Laurens: 4.2 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 4.7 percent
– Wilkinson: 4.0 percent, a decrease from the previous month’s 4.4 percent

The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) was 4.2 percent in March of 2021. This is a decrease from the previous month’s 4.6 percent. The unemployment rate for the Central Savannah River Region was 4.0 percent in March of 2020.

The Central Savannah River Region includes the following counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Jenkins, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, Washington, and Wilkes.

Georgia’s “not seasonally-adjusted” unemployment rate for March 2021 was 4.0 percent, also a decrease from the previous month’s 4.4 percent unemployment rate. In March of 2020, the state unemployment rate was 3.7 percent.
