County Commissioners Approve Fiscal Year 2021 Budget Amendment

Washington County Commissioners approved the fiscal year 2021 budget amendment at their Thursday, June 10 meeting.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained to the Commissioner that the County saw a “decent year” in regard to revenues. When discussing the revenues, County Administrator Peebles stated that the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act monies were helpful to the County. He also noted that local option sales tax revenue was up approximately 10 percent.

Overall, the County saw a surplus of approximately $300,000 for the year.

“It was a pretty decent year considering COVID-19 and everything that was going on,” said County Administrator Peebles.

Commissioners unanimously voted to approve the fiscal year 2021 budget amendment at their June meeting.

Also, during their June 10 meeting, Washington County Commissioners voted to adopt the fiscal year 2022 budget.

County Administrator Peebles remarked that each of the various funds in the proposed budget was presented to the Washington County Commissioners. Additionally, the budget was advertised, and a public hearing was conducted on June 2.

“This will get us set for the next fiscal year,” said County Administrator Peebles.

Commissioners unanimously voted to adopt the fiscal year 2022 budget.

In other news, County Commissioners voted to appoint Patty Garner to serve on the Washington County Regional Medical Center’s Hospital Authority.

County Administrator Peebles stated that Hospital Authority Chairman Jim Croome “highly recommended” Garner for appointment.

“She worked in the medical field,” said County Administrator Peebles, adding that Garner previously served as the administrator of the Washington County Extended Care Facility.

Commissioners unanimously voted at their June 10 to appoint Garner to the Hospital Authority.
