Tennille City Council adopted the fiscal year 2022 budget at their Tuesday, July 6 City Council meeting.

Prior to adopting the budget, a public hearing, as required by law, was held concerning the fiscal year 2022 proposed budget; no one from the public attended that hearing held on Tuesday, July 6.

The Tennille City Council presented a balanced-budget with projected revenues for fiscal year 2022 totaling $1,652,500; projected expenditures total $1,652,500. The projected revenues and expenditures for the water/sewer enterprise fund total $952,050.

After reviewing the budget, Councilperson David Hartley moved to adopt the fiscal year 2022 proposed budget as presented; Councilperson Deborah Rhodes seconded, and the vote carried unanimously by those present at the meeting.

In addition to voting on the budget, Tennille Mayor and Council also discussed medical benefits for City of Tennille employees at their Tuesday, July 6 meeting.

Mayor Eartha Cummings stated that she has spoken with several insurance vendors regarding medical insurance for the City employees. She explained that through those discussions, she found a “very good plan” to offer the City of Tennille employees.

“We compared four or five different companies,” said Mayor Cummings.

When discussing medical benefits for the employees, Mayor Cummings stated that 75 percent of the employees would need to enroll for this to be feasible. She explained that a poll was taken, and there was interest among the City employees.

Mayor Cummings asked the City Council’s authorization to proceed with a formal proposal from the provider that will be presented at the next Tennille City Council meeting.

Councilperson David Hartley moved to allow the Mayor to proceed with gathering information and working with a specific vendor to put together a formal presentation for the City Council to review; Councilperson Rhonda Lemons seconded, and the voted carried unanimously by those present.
