The COVID-19 crisis claimed the 2020 Washington County Kaolin Festival and Tennille BBQ Blast. It is now taking its toll on the 2021 installments of the two beloved annual events.
On Monday, August 23, in a joint message, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Kaolin Festival Committee shared an update to the public on social media.
“The 2021 Kaolin Festival, originally scheduled for October 8th and 9th is postponed. The safety of our community, attendees, and volunteers remain top priority and led us to make this decision,” reads the message, adding a note for a hopeful rescheduling of the event. “We truly look forward to celebrating with you at a future date.”
The Chamber of Commerce and Festival Committee urged individuals to continue showing support for the Kaolin Festival, which is held on the second weekend of October each year.
“Look forward to purchasing your 2021 Kaolin Festival t-shirt and showing your local pride,” said the social media post.
The Tennille Downtown Development Authority also utilized a Washington County Chamber of Commerce Facebook message to share news of the 2021 Tennille BBQ Blast on Monday.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the 2021 Tennille BBQ Blast has been cancelled. We look forward to celebrating with you in 2022,” said the Tennille DDA, thanking the public for their understanding.
