The name of the annual bicycle ride throughout Washington County may be changing, but the mission remains the same – helping local children and families.

It was recently announced that the Kaolin Festival Century Bike Ride will now be known as the Bike for Boys & Girls Clubs.

“Our name change will reflect our continued support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta-Washington County Club,” said members of the Bike Ride Committee.

The bike ride began 12 years ago when local cyclists in Washington County set out to share the roads with fellow riders, in an effort to share their passion as well as the scenery and hospitality that Washington County offers.

Funds from the first two years went to the Christian Life Center. Since 2012, the funds raised benefit the local Boys and Girls Club while promoting Washington County through a bicycling experience that winds throughout the county.

This year’s Bike for Boys & Girls Club event is scheduled for Saturday, October 2. The ride features four routes: the Twin Cities Tour at 18 miles, the Railroad Tour at 32 miles, the Kaolin Tour at 62 miles, and the Washington County Tour at 100 miles/a century.

The course provides “on the road” SAG support as well as seven rest stops with air pumps and other repair tools. The rest stops are made possible through the support of the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County as well as the local fire departments in Washington County.
