Washington County Commissioners will consider repairs to the baseball fields at the Washington County Recreation Department at their Thursday, February 10 meeting.
During their workshop held on Tuesday, February 8, Commissioners discussed the sole quote received to make the repairs. It was noted that Recreation Director Trey Binion solicited quotes from others, but only received one quote.
“On our ball fields where the infield transitions to the outfield, there’s these big humps,” said County Administrator Dustin Peebles when discussing the issues.
County Administrator Peebles stated that Peach State Athletic Fields of Rome, Georgia provided a quote to remove the existing grass, add infield dirt, and laser grade the area to convert two fields to all dirt infields.
“They’ll regrade the ball fields where the drainage is improved, and they’ll remove those humps in the field,” said County Administrator Peebles. “For two of the fields, it will change it to an all-dirt infield.”
The quote from Peach State Athletic Fields to complete this project totals $25,400.
“Our Recreation Director is familiar with this company,” said County Administrator Peebles, adding that this company has done good work on other projects for other communities.
Chairman Horace Daniel asked County Administrator Peebles to contact the City of Sandersville regarding the ditches in the area.
“When we get a good rain, it comes out of that ditch,” said Chairman Daniel.
In addition to repairs to the baseball field, Commissioners will also consider two reappointments to the Washington County Board of Assessors, as well as an amendment to the County’s retirement plan.
The Washington County Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 10 at 9 a.m.
