It’s a slam dunk decision to honor our very own hometown hero Allisha Gray with a mural in downtown Sandersville.
As previously reported by WACO 100, on July 28 of last year, Washington County native Allisha Gray claimed an Olympic Gold Medal in Women’s 3×3 Basketball.
Immediately following that historic win, Allisha Gray recognized her own hometown during the post-game interview, exclaiming, “It’s surreal, it’s great. I get to put on for Sandersville and for Washington County. Shout out to them.”
It’s now time to give a shout out to our hometown hero, our Olympic Gold Medalist – Allisha Gray.
To recognize Gray for her accomplishments, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Sandersville are working to develop a mural in downtown across from Thiele Park on the Esquire building.
According to Washington County Chamber of Commerce President Katie Moncus and the City of Sandersville’s Economic Development Director Andrew Simpson, planning is well underway for the mural with a program to unveil the mural tentatively planned for early Spring.
“We are inviting the public to participate in the development of this mural to honor Allisha for her dedication and hard work and the recognition her accomplishments bring to our City,” said Sandersville Economic Development Director Simpson.
According to Moncus and Simpson, a donor plaque will be placed near the mural to recognize the “Supporters of Allisha” for their contributions to develop the mural.
