Fire hydrant replacement began on Monday, April 4 in residential areas within the City of Tennille.

According to Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings, the replacement concerns hydrants that were identified as having deficient flow or were deemed inoperable.

“This replacement project will take a few weeks,” said Mayor Cummings, noting that during the removal and replacement process, the water in those particular areas will be turned off.

Once water service is restored, a boil order will be in effect for that same area.

According to the notice issued by the City of Tennille, when a boil order is in effect, all who are in the area are asked to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before consumption. The boil order will remain in effect until further notice.

The City asks that residents excuse any discoloration or reduced pressure that may occur during this process. Residents who experience discoloration should turn their outside faucets on and let water run for several minutes to clear the line.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Mayor Cummings. “We truly appreciate the cooperation of our residents.”

The City of Tennille noted that this project is being completed for the betterment and safety of the community.

Some tips were provided by the City of Tennille regarding the fire hydrant replacement project:

– If you are experiencing red or dirty water, do not continue to use the water or wash clothing in the water. Contact the City of Tennille and wait for the issue to be resolved. After repairs are made, make sure your line is clear of any discolored water before resuming washing of clothing.

– Do NOT use the 911 contact number for non-emergency calls.

– The City of Tennille cannot perform work on private property.
