District 2 voters in Washington County will head back to the polls on Tuesday, June 21.
As previously reported by WACO 100, a runoff election is required for the District 2 seats on the Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. District 2 of Washington County includes portions of Davisboro, Riddleville, Sandersville, and Warthen.
In the Tuesday, May 24 General Primary Election, no candidate received over 50 percent of the public’s vote. Thus, a runoff election was enacted.
Last month in the Board of Commissioners District 2 race, Incumbent Edward Burten, Jr. received 294 votes (35.2 percent), Bobby Jackson received 274 votes (32.9 percent), and Christian Cobb received 266 votes (31.9 percent). 835 overall votes were cast.
Incumbent Edward Burten, Jr. will face Bobby Jackson in the General Primary Runoff Election.
In the Board of Education District 2 race, Kristi Jenkins received 355 votes (42.5 percent), John “Zack” Webb received 251 votes (30 percent), and Shanika Wilcher received 230 votes (27.5 percent). 817 overall votes were cast.
Kristi Jenkins will face John “Zack” Webb in the General Primary Runoff Election.

The deadline to register to vote in the Tuesday, June 21 election was Monday, May 23. Individuals may register to vote in future elections online at mvp.sos.ga.gov or in-person at the Board of Elections and Registration Office (150 Riddleville Road, Sandersville).
Early voting will be held in the Board of Elections Office from Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17. There will be no Saturday voting opportunities.
Friday, June 10th is the final day to submit an application for an absentee ballot.
Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
