Mr. Charles Lewellyn Smith, age 75, of CB Club Road in Sandersville passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 26th at 2:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Sandersville with burial to follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery of Warthen. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Cecil Davis, Roy Davis, Jessie Langford, James Monroe, David Nolan, David Smith, and Jamie Swint. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 25th from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born and raised in Washington County, the son of the late William Dudley Smith and the late Frances Zagger Smith. He spent his working career as a machinist with LAPP Insulator and Waco Electric. Charles was known as a “people person,” never meeting a stranger, always enjoying a good conversation, and often greeting friends and family with various terms of endearment such as “darling,” “sweetheart,” and “boo.” Mr. Smith enjoyed dancing, fishing at the lake, riding motorcycles, tinkering with tractors, and gardening. Above all else, he most cherished his time spent with family. Charles belonged to the Nazarene faith. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jule Smith, and sister, Shirley Landry.

Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Missy Smith of Sandersville, Pam Reese and husband Scott of Sandersville, Ricky Smith of Milledgeville, Lynne Smith of Sandersville, and Austin Smith of Sandersville; grandchildren, Errin Bingham and husband Matthew of Eleuthera, Bahamas, Walter Preston Reese and wife Amber of Warthen, Mary Beth Hadden of Mitchell, Ryelyn Hadden of Mitchell, and Ellie Hadden of Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Magnolia Bingham and Lillie Ruth Reese; significant other, Margaret Hadden and son Robert Hadden of Mitchell; siblings, William Smith, Larry Smith, Michael Smith, Chris Smith, Mary Boatright, Mabel Jenkins, Schynell Bragg, Angie Easterly, and Nora Rachels; and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to the Smith Family Funeral Support Fund, P.O. Box 1016, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
