Mr. Stanley Merton Verrill, age 78, of Riddleville passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 21st at 2:00 P.M. in the New Bethel Baptist Church of Riddleville with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery observing military honors. Reverend Marty Deal will officiate. Pallbearers will be Hugh Brown, Desmond Josey, Kenneth Josey, Jairus Lane, Robbie Lane, and Shawn Verrill. Deacons of New Bethel will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Mr. Verrill was born and reared in Gray, Maine, the son of the late Leon Otis Verrill and the late Elsie Hodgkin Verrill. He was a graduate of the Casco High School, where he excelled in track and field. Stan proudly and dutifully served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Verrill began his working career in food service as Manager of Shoney’s Big Boy Restaurant in Augusta. He then relocated to Sandersville to manage the newly opened McDonald’s prior to employment with the Sunbeam Bread Company, becoming known as the “Bread Man” throughout Washington County. Stan would later work in the kaolin industry, retiring as an Equipment Operator and Surveyor with Imerys. Mr. Verrill was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, previously serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Director. He actively and passionately participated in the Oconee Outreach and Washington County Relay for Life. Stan enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and trips back home to Maine to visit with family and friends. Mr. Verrill is preceded in death by his sister-in-law and her husband, Omie Josey and Howard Josey.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ann Brown Verrill of Riddleville; brother, Wayne Verrill and wife Marietta of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Kris Verrill of Maine and Betty Jane Josey and husband Ralph; brother-in-law, Mickey Brown; special niece, Janet Lane; nephew, Shawn Verrill; cousin and best friend, Archie Tripp of Maine; cousin and goddaughter, Diane Reynolds of Maine; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
