Allen Joseph Gibson of Tennille passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 11:00 A.M. in the Tennille Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Sandersville. Reverend Dr. Brian Welch will officiate. Pallbearers will be Michael Caneega, Zac Keaton, David Nolan, Bryant Poss, Jimmy Purser, and Emory Trawick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Forrester, Robert Walk, and Aubrey Wiggins. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 24th from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home of Sandersville.

Mr. Gibson was born, reared, and lived his entire life in Tennille, the son of the late Allen Gibson and Doris Gibson. He owned and operated Gibson’s Radio and TV of Sandersville, serving Washington County and the surrounding areas. Known as a benevolent soul, Joe was regarded as a “problem-solver” by many in the community. Mr. Gibson was described as a man who passed no judgment and offered only kind words. He was a longtime member of the Tennille Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, Information Technology Chair, and Brotherhood member. Joe was recently recognized by the church with a plaque for his exemplary Christian service. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his nephews, Brent Caneega and Jeff Caneega.

Survivors include his daughter, Lauren Poss and husband Bryant of Hoschton; grandchildren, Taylor Poss, Skyla Poss, Jack Poss, and Gabe Poss; sisters, Jeanette Caneega of Wrightsville and Jane Gravelle of Fairfax, Virginia; niece, Jenny Stratton and husband Adam of Annandale, Virginia; and great-nephew, Michael Caneega and wife Ivey of Wrightsville.
