Mrs. Bevill was born in Laurens, South Carolina, to the late Robert Rush Nabors and the late Gertrude Hollingsworth Nabors, the fourth of six children learning the virtues of caring and sharing at an early age. She graduated from the Laurens High School at the age of 16 and soon-after worked in the Office for the Clerk of Superior Court. Jean met the love of her life, Ike Bevill, in 1948 at a community dance and married him in 1952 following his service in the Korean War, relocating to Tennille where they resided for the next 70 years. Mrs. Bevill worked for 36 years at the Tennille Banking Company, beginning her career as a Teller and retiring as Vice President. She was an active member of the Tennille United Methodist Church for over 65 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, and Women’s Mission Group member. Jean was a Past President of the Tennille Garden Club and a member of the Tennille Fine Arts Club and Tennille Woman’s Club, responsible for the rental of their historic building. Mrs. Bevill was known as the “consummate southern lady,” a keen bridge player, and talented gardener. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her four sisters and one brother.
Survivors include her children, Rebecca Bevill and significant other John Fee of Alpharetta and James C. Bevill, Jr. and wife Lisa of Macon; grandchildren, Eric James Bevill and wife Riley of Atlanta, Martha Bevill Ranson and husband Nick of Athens, and Mary Elizabeth Bevill of Atlanta; and three great-grandchildren, Landon James Ranson, Avery Elizabeth Ranson, and James Herbert Bevill.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of the Tennille Retirement Home, including Cyndy Ward, Mary Dunn, and Kristina Jackson, as well as hospice caregivers, Patricia Justice RN, Kim Myrick, and LaShawn Watson for their attentive and loving care for Mrs. Bevill.
