Mr. William Lester Everett, age 87, of Warthen passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, September 1st at 2:00 P.M. in the Pine Hill Methodist Church of Warthen. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Reverend Don Black and Chaplain Christie McTier will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ken Everett, Stacy Everett, Bruce Everett, Alan Everett, Adrian Ashley, Jimmy Ray Smith, Troy Black, Julian Archer, Tristan Tyson, and Waylon Hitchcock. Brooke Edwards, Sandra Greenway, Tina Matteo, Christie McTier, Danny Morgan, and Sok Hwee Tay of SouthEast Hospice will sit as an Honorary Group. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 31 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the May & Smith Funeral Home of Sandersville.
Mr. Everett was born and reared in Deepstep, the son of the late Roy Everett, Sr. and the late Mary Frances Giles Everett. He was a graduate of the Sandersville High School, where despite his smaller stature, he excelled in basketball and helped lead his teams to multiple championships. Lester served in the United States National Guard with a stint in Maryland during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Everett began his working career with Miller’s Food Store before working in the kaolin industry with AIC. He later served as the first Superintendent of Hamburg State Park. Lester retired as a Mail Carrier, where he enjoyed the camaraderie with those on his route. He was a long-time and active member of the Pine Hill Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for nearly 50 years. Lester was known for his great sense of humor and will be remembered as a trusted friend to many. He enjoyed gardening, puzzles, watching westerns, and spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s events. Mr. Everett is preceded in death by his son, Greg Everett; brothers, Roy Everett, Jr. and wife Lois and Ostell Everett; and sister, Corilla Weaver and husband Hank.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Kendall Everett of Warthen; children, Keith Everett and wife Debra of Warthen and Lorri Peterson and husband Pete of Burlington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Taylor Everett of Warthen, Dillon Everett of Warthen, Shelby Everett Jones and husband Sam of Sandersville, and Kendall Peterson of Burlington, North Carolina; great-grandchild, Beverly Everett; brother, Lamar Everett and wife Joanne of Sandersville; sister, Ethel Ashley and husband Donald of Sandersville; sister-in-law, Eva Dell Everett of Sandersville; and loving caregiver, Mary Ann Allison Bass of Warthen.
