Mrs. Byrtis Maxine Daniels, age 89, of Sandersville passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, September 21st at 2:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Sandersville with burial in the Zeta Cemetery of Tennille. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jacob Daniels, Joshua Daniels, Lawton Daniels, Carl Harrison, Wyatt Harrison, Chandler Trousdell, Robbie Morris, and Zack Morris. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20th from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Daniels was a native of Bibb County, the daughter of the late Ernest Eugene Yarbrough and the late Mary Ethel Tidwell Yarbrough. She worked as a homemaker and cashier for Miller’s Food Store. Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville. Mrs. Daniels enjoyed gathering with friends at the McDonald’s Coffee Club and competing in on-air contests while listening to radio station WACO 100. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Alvin Daniels; great-granddaughter, Savannah Megan Morris; and siblings, Malcomb Yarbrough, Melvin Yarbrough, Beatrice Yarbrough, Jane Y. Rozier, and Betty Y. Lindsey.
Survivors include her children, Steven Lawton Daniels and wife Peggy of Danville, Charlotte Daniels Waller and companion Jeff of East Dublin, Miriam Daniels Kitchens and husband Tony of Rockmart, Bonnie Daniels Harrison of Sandersville, and Dawn Daniels Mitchell and husband Chris of Sidney, Maine; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Molly Yarbrough of Lizella.
