Tuesday, November 7 saw citizens of Sandersville, Davisboro, and Harrison exercise their democratic right vote in the 2023 General Municipal Election.
In Sandersville, six elected positions saw opposition with five incumbents retaining their seats.
With 57 percent of the 1,302 total votes, Jimmy Andrews was re-elected as Sandersville Mayor over Cassandra Warthen Jackson.
Jeffery Smith retained his position as Mayor Pro Tem with 58 percent of the votes over I’eshia Harris.
In the most closely contested Sandersville race, incumbent Mayme Dennis defeated Terrence Hall by 22 votes to keep her District 1 seat on the Sandersville City Council.
District 3 Councilperson Danny Brown was re-elected over Crystal Reeves with 85 percent of the votes.
Incumbent Ben Salter also kept his District 4 City Council seat by defeating Leonard Jordan with 58 percent of the votes.
The lone newly elected member of the Sandersville City Council is Deborah Brown, who received 87 percent of the vote over the incumbent Henry Watts.
35 percent of the 3,686 registered Sandersville voters took part in this election. In-person early voting was the most popular form at 58 percent.
District 3 had the most voters turn out with 44 percent. The lowest was the 28 percent in District 2.
November will not serve as the final month of 2023 with an Election Day for the City of Davisboro.
A run-off to elect a new Mayor will be required on Tuesday, December 5 between Randy McNeely and Valerie Brown.
Only 4 votes separated the top vote-receiver McNeely and Brown. With 22 percent of the 298 votes, the incumbent Mayor Sandra Braswell will be left off of the run-off election ballot.
Five candidates sought four open City Councilperson positions in the city-wide Davisboro vote.
Incumbents Keith Braswell, Nikki Carswell, and Larry Ivey all retained their seats. Essie Moye was voted as the fourth member of the Council over T.J. Farthing, who fell 11 votes shy.
56 percent of the 298 registered voters of Davisboro voted in the election with 85 percent voting on Election Day.
The City of Harrison also elected a new Mayor with Vincent Grissom defeating the incumbent Joe Walker, Jr. with 59 percent of the votes.
Only five candidates qualified for the five Harrison City Council seats.
Incumbents Julie Brantley, Mattie Bivens, Johnnie Mae Kennedy, and Albert Travet, Jr. were re-elected alongside new Council member Melinda Brantley.
90 percent of voting occurred on Election Day. Of the 243 registered Harrison voters, 44 percent took part in the General Municipal Election.
