The year-long string of thwarted drops of contraband via drone at the Washington State Prison in Davisboro has resulted in another recent arrest.

It is the 14 reported case in 2023. 35 arrests have stemmed from the scenarios.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted to speculations of an ongoing drone drop at the prison.

Upon arriving to investigate the situation, responding deputies located a “suspicious” vehicle in the vicinity of Highway 231 and South Sparta Davisboro Road.

An ensuing traffic stop of the car yielded evidence of a drone and illicit items that matched the contraband earlier apprehended by the Georgia Department of Corrections inside of the prison.

Following an on-site investigation, Hikal Abdulrahman was arrested with felony charges of possession of marijuana, felony possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of items prohibited by inmates, and the crossing of guard lines with weapons or drugs.

Warrants have also been issued for an additional individual identified as a criminal partner in the operation.

“It is essential that we remain vigilant and encourage residents to report any suspicious activity in and around the prison grounds, as cooperation is invaluable in helping us maintain a secure environment for everyone,” said Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran. “The Sheriff’s Office fosters transparency and communication with our community. We appreciate your continued support as we work together to uphold the principles of safety, justice, and integrity.”
