Charles “Randy” Smith, age 78, of Tennille peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, January 21 at 3:00 P.M. in the Piney Mount United Methodist Church of Tennille. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Mr. Smith was born on August 17, 1945, the son of the late Wesley Smith and the late Jean Smith of Oconee. He was highly recognized member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Randy worked as an Electrician with BASF, formerly Engelhard, for forty-three years. Mr. Smith was a lifelong member of Piney Mount United Methodist Church of Tennille. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener – often found in his yard tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Randy was most known as a family-man, adored by his wife, children and grandchildren. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Smith, and son-in-law, Dan Veal.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sandra Jackson Smith; children, Delene Smith French and husband Tony of Sandersville, Debra Smith Veal of Tennille, and Charles R. Smith, Jr. of Tennille; grandchildren, Josh Evans, Taylor Daniel Veal, Katy French, and Keely French; brother, Tony B. Smith of Milledgeville; and sister-in-law, Tresser G. Smith of Hiawasee.
