Christopher Alan Thomas, age 54, of Sandersville passed away on the morning of Saturday, April 27, 2024. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Dreamland Farms of Sparta.
Mr. Thomas was born on June 23, 1969, the son of the late Alfred Sheldon Thomas Judy Rivers. He lived the majority of his life in Washington County. Following graduating from high school, Chris began work with the Georgia Department of Corrections before becoming the Training Director of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Mr. Thomas was certified as a P.O.S.T Instructor, Senior Instructor, Master Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Emergency Medical Instructor. He also served with the Georgia Defense Force as Chief Warrant Officer. Retiring after 32 years of service, Chris then devoted his time to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, providing programs, presentations, and monthly newsletters for his Camp in Eatonton. Mr. Thomas was recently awarded their Georgia Division Service Award. Chris enjoyed hunting coyote and deer, fishing, and reading historical novels.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Thomas of Sandersville; children, Shannon Marie Rogers and husband Ramie of Douglasville, William Phillip Callaway and wife Tia of Loganville, and Jessalyn Sarah Thomas and husband Isaiah of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Cash Callaway, Lainey Callaway, Charlie Jade Zbinden, Jackson Callaway, Jonas Zbinden, and Avery Callaway; and mother, Judy Rivers and husband William “Bill” Rivers of Warthen.
