Mrs. Carolyn Durden Phillips, age 74, of Macon passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Sandersville with burial in Zeta Cemetery of Tennille. Pastor Jim Johnson and Pastor Corey Maurer will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Spath, Robbie Cantrell, Kendon McMurray, Joseph Wooten, Ayden Phillips, and Joshua Phillips. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Washington County, reared and schooled in Tennille. She began her working career as an Educator at the Youth Development Center of Sandersville, while also attending Georgia Military College to graduate Suma Cum Laude with an associate degree in education. In 2001, Carolyn relocated to Jones County for accounting work with the Macon Superior Court Probation Office – from which she retired. While living in Tennille, Mrs. Phillips was an active member of the Tennille Church of God. In Macon, she was a member of the Christ Community Church and attended the United Community Church. Carolyn was an avid reader and cherished bible study, penning numerous journals. Mrs. Phillips was known as a “prayer warrior.” She most cherished time spent with her family and dogs – Spot, Buddy and Lilly. Carolyn enjoyed crocheting and fishing. Mrs. Phillips is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Phillips; son, Douglas Heath Phillips; and siblings, Gail Johnson, Judy Kennedy, and Fayer Lister.

Survivors include her children, Mike Phillips and wife Jennifer of Roberta and Nichole P. Spath and husband Thomas of Macon; daughter-in-love Lisa Ann Hutchinson and husband Brian; grandchildren, Destiny Ann McMurray and husband Kendon, Gabrielle Grace Phillips and wife Brittney, Ayden Michael Phillips, William Walker Phillips, and Noah Roger Hughs; great-grandchildren, Isabella Ann McMurray, Beckam Ryan McMurray, and Tatum Knox McMurray; and siblings, Johnny Durden and wife Arlene and Sarah Parker.
