Marlie J. Lanthrip, Jr., affectionately known as Snooty, age 71 of Sandersville, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kendall Heights Church of God of Sandersville. Reverend Bobby Williford, Reverend Weston Williford, Reverend Danny May, and Reverend Quint Shepherd will officiate. His nephews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home of Sandersville.

Mr. Lanthrip was born in Sandersville, the son of the late Marlie J. Lanthrip, Sr. and the late Mattie Lizzie Sellars Lanthrip. He served his community for nine years as a Deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and an Officer with the Sandersville and Davisboro Police Departments. Snooty was a General Contractor by trade and was regarded for his great construction abilities. Mr. Lanthrip enjoyed cooking and feeding others his well-known barbecue and steaks. He enjoyed watching “Gunsmoke” and wrestling, and liked to fish. Snooty loved spending time with his friends – taking a trip to the mountains, going on a cruise, or sitting down to eat. Mr. Lanthrip will be remembered for his willingness to always lend a helping hand. Above all, he loved God, his family, and his church. Snooty was a faithful and dedicated member of the Kendall Heights Church of God. Mr. Lanthrip is preceded in death by his siblings, Larry J. Lanthrip, Connie L. Usry, Dale L. Davis, Pat L. Baucom, and Betty L. Williford.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Tina Baucom Lanthrip; children, Marlie J. “Jake” Lanthrip III of Sandersville, Monica L. Swint and husband Jamie of Sandersville, and Audrey Lanthrip and husband Jon Sheley of Davisboro; “child by choice,” Chris Lanthrip; foster child, Trent Hannah; grandchildren, Austin Swint and wife Megan, Matt Swint, Kristen Swint, Jakob Lanthrip, Vada Lanthrip, Parker J. Lanthrip, and Cain Sheley; great-grandchildren, Carlee Swint and Lainey Swint; sister, Elaine Lanthrip; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
