Mr. David Russell Joiner, age 73, of Highway 15 North in Wrightsville passed away on Thursday, June 27.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel of Sandersville with burial to follow in the West View Cemetery of Wrightsville. Keith Joiner and Michael Bailey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tyler Wilkerson, Kenny Wilkerson, Tommy Marshall, Jr., Jake Edwards, Tommy Marshall, Sr., Mike Channel, and Richard Boyd. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the May & Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Joiner was born and reared in the Donavan area of Johnson County, the son of the late Owen Martin Joiner, Sr. and the late Ruby Myrle Whitfield Joiner. His working career began at the age of 18 with Thiele Kaolin Company, working in the quality control lab and on the tracks. Russell later worked for the Washington County Landfill and in transportation with the Parker Fish Company. Mr. Joiner enjoyed being outdoors – camping and gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons football fan. Russell was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Joiner most cherished spending time with his beloved family. He is preceded in death by his bothers, Bobby Joiner and Tommy Joiner.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carol Dean Black Joiner; daughters, Lori Ann Joiner of Wrightsville and Michelle Joiner and fiance Tommy Marshall of Wrightsville; grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Wilkerson, Kenneth David Wilkerson; great-grandchildren, Summer Lei Wilkerson and Oakley Faye Wilkerson; siblings, Eloise Hayes of Virginia, Owen Martin Joiner Jr. and wife Suzanne of Harrison, Connie Sheppard and husband Everett of Harrison, Carol Price and husband Roger of Wrightsville, Jan Claxton and husband Carlton of Dublin, Ben Joiner and wife Leigh of Harrison, and June Baily and husband Michael of Dublin; and his and beloved dog, Ruger.
