Mr. Danny Joe “Joby” Blount, age 63, of Highway 242 in Sandersville passed away on Sunday, June 30 following a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sandersville First Church of the Nazarene. A private family interment will follow the service. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Scott Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers will be Daniel May, Loren Loggins, Dean Helton, Robbie Huff, Vincent Grissom, and Gary Flynn. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May & Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Blount was born and reared in Sandersville, the son of the late Cecil O. Blount, Jr. and Faye Smith Blount. He was a 1978 graduate of the Washington County High School. Joby worked for the Atlanta Gas Light Company for 20 years, before a stint with Jet Food Stores, followed by starting his own business in 2001. Mr. Blount was well known for his ability to repair any type of appliance, electrical equipment, or motor. He was a member of the River Country Club in Dublin. Joby enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and eating good food, especially the banana pudding and peach cobbler from Chester Dean’s. Mr. Blount was a member of the Sandersville First Church of the Nazarene. He is preceded in death by his son, Danny Joe Blount, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Jan Woodard Blount; son, Chris Blount and fiancé Amber McCoy; mother, Faye Smith Blount of Sandersville; siblings, Sondra Cauble of Kenesaw, Dana Blount of Harrison, and Keith Blount and wife Teena of Harrison; and his beloved dog, Roscoe.
