Gaynelle Haralson Turk, age 84, of Sandersville passed away on Monday, July 8. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sisters Baptist Church of Sandersville. Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Sisters Baptist Church Sanctuary.
Mrs. Turk was born on July 16, 1939, in Ashburn to the late Charlie Haralson and the late Alma Haralson. She was a graduate of the Ashburn High School and Valdosta State University with an associate’s degree in business administration. At a young age, Gaynelle developed a love for the Lord that would support her lifelong unwavering faith. In 1960, Mrs. Turk wed the love of her life, George Turk, embarking on a partnership of commitment, devotion, and mutual respect. She nurtured a loving home built on the foundations of faith, family, and compassion – raising her children with boundless love and support, taking great pride in their accomplishments and finding immense joy in their happiness and her beloved grandchildren. Gaynelle retired as Office Manager for the Washington County Health Department, where she made many friends while touching the lives of her community with generosity and empathy. Mrs. Turk taught preschool classes at the Sister’s Baptist Church for decades, developing lifelong bonds with the children and their families. She was mightily active in the work of Gideon’s International, formerly serving as the statewide Gideon’s Auxiliary President. Gaynelle enjoyed homemaking, cooking, and caring for those she loved – finding joy in the simple pleasures of life and creating lasting memories with family and friends. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, warm smile, and ability to uplift others.
Survivors include her husband, George Turk of Sandersville; children, Trenton Dale Turk and wife LaSona and Glenda Gayle Fitzpatrick; and grandchildren, Tyler Turk and wife Pam, Bradley Herron and wife Kelsey, Jennifer Joel and husband Ilan, and Sam Fitzpatick.
