The cities of Sandersville and Tennille have issued city-wide water restrictions amid operational complications.
Earlier this week, the City of Sandersville announced that two wells were “down at this time.”
Sandersville has a water system comprised of three main water plants and three elevated water towers. Six deep wells within the city serve Sandersville and Tennille, meaning 1/3 of the wells are currently not working.
According to the Public Works Department, while the two wells being out of service does not put the cities in a compromised position, it could leave Sandersville and Tennille in a vulnerable spot should an emergency take place – such as a water main break or major fire in the area.
In an abundance of precaution, the city-wide water restrictions have been issued until further notice.
While the cities of Sandersville and Tennille are not asking residents to make any extensive lifestyle alterations to conserve water, they are requesting the halt of any unnecessary usage at this time – including lawn watering, car washing, filling of swimming pools, or other similar applications.
The City of Sandersville had previously announced a city-wide water restriction for next week, due to scheduled maintenance and the drainage of a million-gallon water storage tank at their Ferncrest facility.
Water restrictions were implemented earlier than expected following the unrelated issues arising this week.
