A new initiative for community revitalization aims to cover Washington County in prayer.

‘Pray 4 WACO’ is a new community-wide call to action designed to uplift and rejuvenate Washington County through the power of unity, prayer, and dedicated action.

The 5-day campaign will run next week from Monday, August 5 through Friday, August 9.

Participating prayer warriors are encouraged to register online at pray4waco.com to receive guided resources to use during the week of prayer.

“Typically, people ask for prayer when things go wrong in our community. But, what would it look like to intentionally pray for things to go well,” said Lakeshia Poole, Creator of ‘Pray 4 WACO.’ “Faith is a cornerstone in the lives of many people in Washington County and it should be a part of our plans for building a more prosperous, safer, and healthier community.”

Lakeshia Poole was born and raised in Washington County. She has served as a Public Relations Consultant for over 20 years. During that time, she has worked with several national and state-based community development organizations. Poole is a published author of multiple fiction books and guided journals.

“Rural counties like ours face many unique challenges, but I’ve noticed that most communities want the same things: more affordable housing; economic opportunities; quality education; and a safe, inclusive place for all families to flourish,” Poole said.

The goal of the ‘Pray 4 WACO’ campaign is to register 684 people to pledge to pray and symbolically cover all 684 square miles of Washington County in prayer.

Registered participants will receive guidance and tips for the week, including prayer points across the four highlighted areas – Revive, Redeem, Restore, and Rebuild.

“It’s simple. You can pray in your home, on your way to work or school, or while walking your block or dirt road,” added Lakeshia Poole. “Whether you were born here, live here, or simply want to see improvements in our community, the point is that we’re all focused on bettering Washington County at the same time.”
