At approximately 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 4000 block of Highway 68 near Deepcut Road following calls of a pedestrian-vehicle crash.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the individual was walking down the middle of the northbound lane of the road wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. He was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado truck with a brush guard.

Nathaniel Brantley, age 32, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the site of the incident.

Last year, the United States recorded a 40-year high in pedestrian-vehicle crash deaths, estimated at over 7,500. Pedestrians are involved in less than 2 percent of all vehicle crashes, but account for over 12 percent of vehicle-related fatalities and serious injuries.
