Mr. Jimmy Screws, affectionately known as Bo, age 77, of Ridge Road in Sandersville passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church on County Line Road in Washington County with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Reverend Terry Cliett and Reverend David Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bobby Miller, Nicky Screws, Joey Reece, Chandler McDavid, Thomas Avant, Travis Proctor, Jacob Amerson, and Brian Avant. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Friendship Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mr. Screws was born near Oconee and lived as a lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Gordon David Screws and the late Tillie Osborne Screws. He began work at an early age in the textile industry at a Woolen Mill in Milledgeville and with Washington Manufacturing in Tennille. Jimmy later transitioned into the Kaolin Industry with Cypress Clays before retiring from equipment maintenance at K.T. Clays. In retirement, Mr. Screws worked alongside his son in yard maintenance. He was a longtime and active member of the Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Jimmy was regarded as an excellent mechanic, especially on difficult small engines. Mr. Screws enjoyed the outdoors, traveling to the mountains, and watching old westerns and game shows on TV. He most cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and his sidekick dog, Chipper. Jimmy is preceded in death by his children, Vickie Osborne, Jimmy Dewayne Screws, and infant daughter Grace Marie.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruby Gunn Screws; children, Tony Screws and wife Amy of Sandersville, Carolyn S. Kent and husband Clay of Milledgeville, and Scott Kicklighter of Tennille; son-in-law, Mike Osborne; grandchildren, Katelyn Amerson and husband Jacob, Kayla Screws, and Bethany Screws and fiance Peyton Schulyer; great-grandchildren, Isabella Dennard and Zylan Corbin; and siblings, Gordon Davis Screws of Gibson, Lant Screws and wife Faye of Tennille; and Tillie S. Williams of Dublin.
