Three-and-a-half weeks removed from Hurricane Helene thrashing through Washington County, many residents are still reeling and feeling the long-term effects of the storm.

Over the past 25 days, recovery efforts have been underway throughout the community to assist those most vulnerable in a variety of ways.

As many citizens are well aware, a longer-lasting impact is being felt from downed trees in yards and properties.

Beginning today, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief teams are working in Washington County to assist with this pressing need – cutting and removing trees.

Volunteer teams and their services are expected to be available over the next few weeks.

To register for tree cutting and/or removal, visit their temporary headquarters site outside the First Baptist Church of Sandersville at 316 Mathis Lane.

Applicants will be asked to complete needed forms and paperwork.

A pre-screening process or call ahead is not required.

Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief is compiled of volunteers seeking to serve Christ in times of crisis by assisting in recovery efforts following disaster events.

It is an extension of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, a resource for state of Georgia pastors and ministry leaders to equip them with further avenues to build relationships and share the gospel.

In 2024, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have totaled nearly 4,000 combined days assisting in-need individuals throughout the state. They have prepared almost 50,000 meals, provided close to 5,000 showers, washed over 1,500 loads of laundry, and completed roughly 400 chainsaw-required tree cutting and removal jobs.

Most importantly, through these essential relief efforts and the ministry that surrounds them, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have witnessed to hundreds of people this year.

The group praises God in announcing 28 new professions of faith from people turning their lives to Christ after receiving His word through the ministry of Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief.
