Inmate Dies at Washington State Prison in Davisboro

An inmate has died at the Washington State Prison in Davisboro.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections (CDC), the unresponsive body of Dontavious Carter was located by correctional staff on Tuesday, January 7. He was pronounced dead upon inspection.

The body was collected by the Washington County Coroner’s Office and transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab to determine an official cause of death.

No information on any potential events that could have led to the death of Carter have been disclosed by the Department of Corrections.

The situation is also being investigated by the GDC Office of Professional Standards.

At the time of his death, Dontavious Carter was serving a pair of 20 year sentences for crimes committed in Clayton County – cruelty to animals and aggravated assault. He had a maximum release date from prison in March of 2059.
