A pair of young scholars are shining bright – named as the 2025 local STAR Students.
On Monday, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the annual honor.
Katie Smith has been named as the STAR Student for the Washington County High School.
Brooks Hartley is the STAR Student for Brentwood School.
To be recognized with the distinguished honor, a student must have achieved the highest score in their class on a single SAT taken through the month of November during their 12th grade year. Winners must also possess a grade point average within the top ten percent or top ten students of their graduating class.
STAR Students are then allowed to choose their STAR Teacher, the educator they deem most influential in contributing to their academic development.
Deborah Andrews was chosen by Katie Smith as the Washington County High School STAR Teacher.
Christy Wallace has been named Brentwood School Star Teacher by Brooks Hartley.
“The Chamber of Commerce is always proud to announce the STAR Students and STAR Teachers. We have recognized many STARS over the years and we are now proud to add Brooks and Katie to the prestigious list,” said Katie Moncus, President of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.” Please help us give them a warm congratulations on this honor.”
Now in its 67th year, the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored, administered, and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation.
The Washington County District-level STAR Student will be announced during the February 6 STAR recognition event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
