An investigation and autopsy are ongoing to reveal the circumstances surrounding the death of a local man.

Earlier this week, on Monday, January 27, the Sandersville Police Department responded to an emergency call of an unconscious individual.

Officers were immediately dispatched to a residence on Temple Drive around 7:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, responding personnel determined that the subject was deceased.

The man was later identified as Grady Smith.

Per protocol in locating an unattended deceased individual, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sandersville Police Department was sent to inspect the scene.

The body was then transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab for an autopsy to officially discover the cause of death.

According to Sandersville Chief of Police Victor Cuyler, the local scene examination indicated no signs of foul play.

He stated that a complete and in-depth inspection was conducted, which included multiple interviews.

It revealed no evidence of assault.

In an attempt to dispel a swirling local rumor, Chief Cuyler says the Police Department can confirm that the deceased body was not found with a bag over the face nor any substance tied around the neck.

While awaiting autopsy results, the investigation remains open.

Concerned citizens or persons with information are encouraged to call the Sandersville Police Department at 478-552-3121.
